Navamsa (D9)

The most important divisional chart in Vedic astrology: your marriage, your inner strength, and what your chart becomes with age.

Included in the Forecasts plan

What is it?

In Vedic astrology (jyotish), each sign can be divided into finer parts to build divisional charts, the vargas. The Navamsa divides each sign into nine parts of 3°20’: it is the D9 chart.

It is read together with the main chart, the Rāśi (D1). A planet in the same sign in both is called vargottama: it is strengthened. The D9 is used in particular to read marriage and the spouse.

What it’s for

  • Read partnership, marriage and the spouse in jyotish
  • Check a planet’s real strength
  • Spot vargottama planets
  • Complete the reading of the Rāśi chart (D1)

Frequently asked questions

Why nine divisions?

“Navamsa” means “ninth part” in Sanskrit: each 30° sign is divided into nine parts of 3°20’, each assigned to a sign.

Does the Navamsa need an accurate birth time?

Yes: the D9 Ascendant changes sign about every thirteen minutes. Without a reliable time, you mostly read the planets’ positions.

Which zodiac is used?

The sidereal zodiac of Vedic astrology, with the ayanamsa of your choice (Lahiri by default) among those offered by Zodiac Intelligence.
