Solar arc

All your planets move by the same arc as your Sun, about one degree a year: a simple, precise method to date events.

Included in the Forecasts plan

What is it?

In solar arc directions, you measure how far your progressed Sun has moved since birth, then move ALL the planets and angles of your chart by that same distance.

When a directed point reaches a point of your birth chart, by conjunction or aspect, it marks a period when the theme of that meeting takes shape. One degree is roughly one year of life.

What it’s for

  • Date major events, past or to come
  • Check a birth time against known events
  • Add a third reading to transits and progressions
  • Follow your directed Midheaven for career turning points

Frequently asked questions

How is it different from secondary progressions?

In progressions, each planet moves at its own speed. In solar arc, they all move together, by the arc travelled by the progressed Sun.

Which orb should I use?

A very tight orb, around one degree, since one degree is about one year. Beyond that, the event would be too far away in time.

Does the birth time matter?

Yes for the directed angles (Ascendant, Midheaven) and the houses. Aspects between planets remain usable without an exact time.
